The Day We Adopted…
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! While most of my posts focus on fitness, nutrition and healthy living, my main mission here at Love.Fit.Live. is always to share inspiration for a happy, healthy lifestyle — and I wanted to take this opportunity to share a little something that has made my happy life even happier over the past year.
Last Valentine’s Day weekend (say that six times fast!), my fiance and I decided to visit our local animal shelter “just to look.” Of course, if you’ve been to one, you know it’s practically impossible to leave without taking home one of the sweet-faced animals staring back at you from their kennel. So, we decided to adopt…a little black chihuahua dachshund, otherwise known as a “chiweenie,” by the name of Mistletoe (who we renamed Mishka). She was born on December 5, hence the holiday name!
Mishka’s mom was dropped off at the shelter pregnant – she was transferred around to several different shelters and placed on the kill program before she ended up giving birth to a litter of beautiful little puppies. Mishka was the runt of the litter–she wasn’t eating and the shelter was afraid she might not make it. Luckily, a guardian angel/volunteer at the animal shelter stepped in and helped nurse her back to health.

Since we’ve adopted Mishka, she has…
Basked in the sun at Laguna Beach!

Cruised the Las Vegas strip!
Celebrated her first birthday in style!
And, of course, done lots of lounging, napping, running, chasing toys, eating shoes, and other “dogly” things. ![]()
I never thought a tiny, 2 lb. chihuahua could bring so much love and happiness to the world–but, then again, sometimes love and happiness can be found in the most unlikely places (just ask me how I met my fiance – more on that another time!).
