Fitness & Nutrition Tips from the Quickie Chick!

Hi everyone,

Happy Hump Day! Are you as excited as I am that we are one day closer to Friday!? This week has been go, go, go for me–wedding planning, future home shopping, training at the gym, and some unexpected, not-so-nice surprises like a busted dishwasher/major plumbing issue. I’m all about quick, easy fixes and, this week, I got the chance to catch up with the queen of quick tips for fast-paced chicks, Laurel House (aka the official “Quickie Chick”).

I’ve been a fan of Laurel for a long time and I’m so thrilled to host her here on Love.Fit.Live. Not only is she a former dancer like me, we also share an affection for Red Velvet Cupcakes (btw, did you see this Red Velvet Cupcake recipe on Chef in Training today? Perfect for Valentine’s Day!).

Laurel is a Healthy LifeStylist, 4x Published Author, Personal Trainer and the “QuickieChick”-  a cheat sheet to life for chicks. She has weekly video columns on Giuliana Rancic’s FabFitFun.com, GalTime.com, TheCollegeTownLife.com and CupidsPulse.com, and she’s a Dating Coach with DatingWithDignity.com. Is there anything this girl can’t do?! Here are some of Laurel’s favorite “quickie” tips just for you…

1. Workout:

Trim Thighs Quickie Workout in Bed: 

I do it several times a week before falling asleep and it SERIOUSLY works my butt, keeping it lifted and tight but still round and perky. 

2. Meal or snack for women on the go:

Depends on my mood. I LOVE popchips chili limon when I am in the mood for salty since it’s only 4 grams of fat for an entire bag! If I’m running around and don’t have time for a normal meal, I love balance bar protein bars- they satisfy my protein need and constant sweet tooth

3. Fat-busting food:

All about my “special tea”: hot water, a whole lemon squeezed plus the pulp, 3 shakes of cayenne pepper powder, 3 shakes cinnamon powder. It also kills cravings and detoxes. My new obsession is also apple cider vinegar mixed with water. I drink it several times a day and after dinner to sort of end my meal and tell me that I’m done.

4. Guilty pleasure:

5. Lifestyle tip for women:

You need to love and accept yourself and your body first. If you love your body, you will want to take care of it. If you accept your body, you will understand when you have mini mess-ups or bad days. Now that you’ve got that, you don’t have an excuse to not workout. It’s so easy to do something, anything, lots of things! Do at least 2 Daily100s a day- 100 seconds or 100 reps of an exercise, any exercise (my personal faves are Plank in the morning and Jumping Jacks after dinner). It helps to up your metabolism and burn more calories throughout the day. Also, stand up more and you will burn more calories all day! If you work at a desk, elevate your desk or pile up boxes on top and create a higher surface. Up the ante by marching in place. Make these simple changes and you WILL see a difference in your body.

  3. I do this workout before I shower : 30 jumping jacks, 5 push ups, 20 crunches, 20 mpuntain climbers, 1 minute plank, 50 squats. Only takes a few minutes. :-)
